Nauvoo Temple Garden Room

The intricately detailed murals portray the beauty and tranquility of the Garden of Eden. In this second of four instruction rooms, we are taught of man's earthly beginnings and how those events relate to our eternal happiness.  We learn about the relationship God had with Adam and Eve, our first earthly parents, in the Garden of Eden.

We also learn of the Fall and particularly of God's infinite love for all His children in providing a Savior--His own Son, Jesus Christ. As we are taught these truths, we gain a greater understanding of and appreciation for Christ's Atonement, which has the power to rescue all of us from physical death and, according to our faithfulness in living His commandments and gospel principles, from an eternal spiritual death.

We came to earth to be tested, to show whether we would obey God's commandments. The promises we make in the temple become anchors of stability in our daily living and pathways to God's eternal blessings.  (Nauvoo Illinois Temple Brochure)

This week was temple service as usual--which is always wonderful.  No excursions, etc.

The fields around our apartment have been filled with geese.  They love the flats of Nauvoo.  Hunting season opened last week and geese that were by the river were hunted, but these are all smart enough to stay away.

We did have a progressive dinner one evening.  Very interesting and carefully crafted.  Each couple had their own "itinerary."  We did not go with the same group for appetizers, salad, main dish, or dessert.  We hosted the salad, but went to three other homes and interacted with three different groups of missionaries.  Very fun.

Then we also had a "baptismal team" ending dinner with six couples who served on the Saturday evening team.  Since the busy summer time is over, the baptismal teams are disbanded.  We very much enjoyed that team and had a great time working together.  (Someone took a photo, but has not shared it yet.)

We finally got to the Sunset on the Mississippi  performance by the new performing missionary group.  They are wonderful, exuberant, very talented, and full of energy.  What a joy to watch and listen to them perform. Here's a sampling:
